915 children with malnutrition benefited from dietary and therapeutic supplements

In a joint effort to combat malnutrition among vulnerable children, UNICEF supported the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MoHME) to provide essential nutrition supplies to 750 children with moderate to severe malnutrition in refugee settlements in Yazd and Razavi Khorasan provinces. Malnutrition in children under the age of five could cause underweight, stunting, wasting and even death. Funded from the European Community Humanitarian Aid Office(ECHO), the initiative provided 750 children under five, with essential nutrition supplies designed for prevention and management of malnutrition in health facilities. It also included provision of therapeutic formulas to 165 severe malnourished children in hospitals in Yazd and Razavi Khorasan provinces.

With the improvement of nutritional status of these children, UNICEF is now positioned to advocate for the widespread use of these supplies in less advantaged provinces and areas. Moreover, UNICEF plans to support provision of relevant local products, ensuring a sustainable solution to malnutrition-related challenges faced by communities in need.

The collaboration between UNICEF and MoHME underscores the shared commitment to improving child nutrition and well-being in Iran. By providing essential nutrition supplies, UNICEF and its partners are making significant strides towards a healthier future for children in the country.
