Event Held to Mark UN Day 2025 and 80th Anniversary of the Charter Signing
Tehran, 27 October 2025 — The United Nations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran marked United Nations Day 2025 through a high-level ceremony at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS), commemorating 80 years since the signing of the UN Charter.
The event brought together nearly 200 participants, including representatives from more than 50 embassies, senior government officials, UN personnel, civil society partners, and members of the media.
Speaking at the opening, Mr. Stefan Priesner, UN Resident Coordinator in Iran, underlined the importance of cooperation amid global complexity.
He said: “In a world increasingly divided by geopolitical tensions, development cooperation and humanitarian work remain powerful areas of confidence building — connecting people, fostering trust, and building resilience. Here in Iran, the United Nations Country Team is proud to focus on this effort.”
The observance highlighted both the historical legacy of the United Nations and its ongoing collaboration with Iran across key areas such as support for sustainable development and humanitarian assistance.
Senior officials in attendance included Dr. Esmaeil Baghaei, Spokesperson of the Ministery of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Centre for Public Diplomacy, and Dr. Shina Ansari, Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment.
As part of the programme, a special video presentation featuring reflections from former UN staff and national partners highlighted the UN’s 80-year journey.
Participants also visited a curated exhibition displaying decades of UN engagement in Iran, from humanitarian assistance to support to Iran’s efforts towards sustainable development, innovation under UN 2.0, and stories from UN projects across the country.
The ceremony concluded with a gesture of appreciation from attendees to Mr. Stefan Priesner, UN Resident Coordinator in Iran, recognizing his four years of service and contributions to strengthening cooperation between the United Nations, national institutions, and the diplomatic community.
