UNODC Supports Iranian Government Response to COVID-19 with PPE Procurements

UNODC Country Office in Iran has completed procurement of personal protective equipment to support national response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the I. R. Iran.
In January 2021, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Office in Iran has completed procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) to support national response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The PPE items will be distributed among Iranian government entities in coordination with national partners.
In total, 190,000 pieces of two types of 3-layer masks will be distributed among the State Welfare Organization, the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, and the Prisons Organization. The masks, provided to the Prisons Organization, will be distributed among prisons and juvenile correction and rehabilitation centers. In addition, half of a million of needles and syringes will be distributed to selected Civil Society Organizations to support harm reduction efforts in the country. UNODC team in Iran will continue its assistance to national partners and contribute its support to national campaign to address the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
The procurements were made possible through generous funding from the European Union and the Kingdom of Sweden.
