Commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Qazvin – On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Disability Association of Tavana (DAT) in partnership with UNIC Tehran held a webinar on “Disability and Covid-19 pandemic” on Wednesday 10 December 2020.
The webinar, which was attended by 40 members of the DAT, reviewed the effects of Covid-19 and the activities of the DAT for the well-being of people with disabilities during the pandemic.
Director of International Relations of the DAT Masoume Amedi, in her remarks congratulated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and said that every year, the DAT commemorates different UN observances in partnership with UNIC. “This year, due to Covid-19 pandemic, we will celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by a webinar,” she added.
Member of the Board of Directors of DAT Mohammad Reza Hadipour, while congratulating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, referred to making the Covid-19 as an opportunity by the DAT. He said this year, due to Covid-19 and lack of face masks in the early days of the outbreak, we set up a mask production workshop to provide masks in addition to creating jobs for people with disabilities. “We produced about one million face masks,” he added. Hadipour pointed out that DAT also started producing and distributing sanitizers and disinfectants, as well.
Member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of the DAT, Hojjatullah Yousefi thanked the UN for dedicating a day for people with disabilities. He talked about to impacts of Covid-19 on lives of people with disabilities. Yousefi emphasized that Covid-19 pandemic has made the disabled peoples’ lives more difficult in terms of treatment and social presence as well as rising medical and rehabilitation costs.
A video on the production line DAT was also screened for the participants.
At the end of the webinar, UNIC Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rajai Moghadam, while thanking the DAT and its Chairman Mr. Seyed Mohammad Mousavi for commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disability as well as their remarkable activities for disabled persons during Covid-19 pandemic, said as its name “Tavana” (Able) indicates, DAT and its members are truly powerful and “able” people who can very well manage and control the pandemic crisis and perform useful activities for the welfare of persons with disabilities.
Then, he delivered the UN the message of the UN Secretary General to the webinar attendees.
